Mount kilimanjaro route

Lemosho route

The Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful ways to climb Kilimanjaro. It starts on the west side of the mountain and follows the same path as the Shira Route in the beginning. You’ll cross the wide Shira Plateau, climb the famous Barranco Wall, and then take on the exciting final push to Uhuru Peak. The way down follows the Mweka Route on the southern side. This route is a bit more expensive because it takes longer, but it’s worth every step for the views and experience.

Landscape
The adventure begins with two days walking through lush rainforest, then moves into open moorlands before reaching the vast Shira Plateau. Along the way, you’ll pass striking rock formations and enjoy stunning views, including the distant Mount Meru. The scenery changes often, making this one of the most breathtaking routes on the mountain.

Highlights

  • Spectacular and varied scenery

  • High chance of reaching the summit (about 90%)

  • Fewer crowds compared to other routes

Difficulty Level
Moderate — challenging at times, but very doable for most hikers.

Distance
About 67 km, usually completed in 7–8 days.
